We were discussing this on our trip this weekend and I didn't see it posted here. No details on the detour on the north side. Unlike when they paved the northern portion of the road, it doesn't sound like they will open the road on weekends this time, so it may be a bit hectic. The notice states that it will be closed down to the fayette station bridge, but boater access will be available. This is DOT's official release below. At least they will provide lunch!
Fayette Station Road Closed for Widening, Repairs and Paving Project
4/4/2019
Fayette County, WV – The West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) announces that Fayette Station Road (CR82) in Fayetteville will be closed to through traffic on the South side of the New River, according to Greg Hylton, District Nine Construction Engineer.
The Fayette Station Road will be closed on Monday April 15, 2019 at 6:30 a.m. and is scheduled to reopen on Sunday July 28, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. The closure is necessary for road widening, repairs and paving. The closure will start approximately 1 mile north of the intersection of CR82 and U.S. 19 to the Tunny Hunsaker Bridge, locally known as the Fayette Station Bridge, at milepost 4.61 over the New River. River access at the National Parks Service boat lunch, will be provided with two-way traffic on the north side of the New River.
WVDOH expresses their apologies for the inconvenience this may cause the citizens and guests to the area.
The anticipated completion date for this project is July 28, 2019. However, inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.

We drove out the Fayetteville side this evening. It appears to be finished. No sign of construction or equipment.

Round two. From today's newspaper (July 27, 2019)
Fayette Station Road temporarily reopens; to close again in early August
The south end of Fayette Station Road in the New River Gorge National River has temporarily reopened, but will close again in early August to allow state Division of Highways contractors to complete repairs, according to the National Park Service. The road, which connects the south rim of the Gorge near Canyon Rim Visitor Center with the Park Service’s Fayette Station river access facility and Fayetteville, has been closed between Fayette Station Bridge and a point one mile north of its intersection with U.S. 19 since April 15. The closure was put in place to accommodate widening, resurfacing and other improvements. Work that remains to be completed in August includes the installation of safety guardrails along one section.

So we may have been using the closed side on the weekends and evenings. Have had no issues until tonight.
