Some of you I'm sure are familiar with the negotiations to "Wet the Dries". I've gotten confirmation that there is an agreement to increase in minimal flows in the Dries, schedule whitewater releases for recreation @ 2200 - 2500 cfs in late June and early July each year starting in 2019, and establish of public river access points at Cotton Hill and Gauley Bridge.
I wasn't successful in attaching the DEP letter with the conditions here, so email me at arosser@wvrivers.org if you'd like to see the details.
The agreement also calls for opening an existing gravel roadway that runs from the Cotton Hill bridge upriver to the parking area at the Hawks Nest State Park marina for a public hiking/biking trail. At that point it would connect with a trail on state park land that continues upriver to trails on NPS land. This new public trail from Cotton Hill would also connect with the existing rail-trail that comes down Mill Creek from Ansted.
I've been missing participating WVWA's activities; but we're working hard at WV Rivers Coalition to keep your waters wild & clean. Thanks for the club's support of our work!

The AW post cast a gloomy picture for the dries. I am assuming they are going to initiate the appeals process but were not definitive on this. They normally provide a path for public input but I did not see any instructions on their post. If there is something we as the public can do at this point, please let it be known.
