Roll Sessions at the South Charleston Rec Center are scheduled for each Sunday evening from January 8th through April 2nd from 8:00-9:30 pm..
The cost to members is $5 per session ($10 nonmembers) . Please bring exact change. Boats must be clean. Directions to the pool can be found on the WVWA calendar. We will need a "host" for each session. The host collects money and helps hold the door while people bring in their kayaks. As a host you can still roll in the pool. If you can help out by hosting a session please post under this thread and I will update the table.. Host Sign-Up List: Date | Host | January 8 | Dan & Lori Waller | January 15 | Tom & Bridget | January 22 | Ruth Bell | January 29 | Wes & Linda Barthwick | February 5 | Dan & Lori Waller | February 12 | Bill Niemann | February 19 | Dan & Lori Waller | February 26 | Harry Netzer | March 5 | Harry Netzer | March 12 | Larry Pelfrey | March 19 | Larry Pelfrey | March 26 | Chuck & Nancy Brabec | April 2 | Ruth Bell | |

Is there a hose available at the pool to wash out boats? I brought a bit of NC and TN with me.

It appears that Dan Waller forgot that he signed up to host the pool session on January 8th and no one else stepped up to collect money from those who were there. I hope that everyone who was there will pay for the first session next Sunday, January 15th.
If you have already volunteered to host a session, please be sure that you are there or find someone else to fill in for you.
Look at the first post in this thread to see who has volunteered for which session. If no one has, please consider volunteering to host a session.

I should have contacted you before the pool session to remind you - especially since it was the first one. Chuck

pool sessions are an informal affair- people show up with their boats and practice in the pool- rolling being the main focus. So if your looking to learn from square one then here's some tips- make sure boat and gear is clean for use in pool, rinse gear off afterwards to counteract the chlorine, some folks find nose plugs, ear plugs and goggles useful, be aggressive in stating you want help, not everybody will be there to help- some folks like me are just trying to nail there own roll while others are very accomplished- the accomplished folks hope to get a little practice themselves and usually more than willing to give up some of their pool time to help others
going to the pool can help you get a feel for how you want to outfit your boat, get you more comfortable being upside down in your boat, wet exiting, and yes its a great place to work on a roll, it can be a little intimidating when you're new- lots of folks already know each other but as a whole we're a friendly bunch willing to help out others
you'll be tired afterward, practice hard but realize you'll wear down after a while

Hello everyone. I recently joined the WVWA due to my interest in learning to kayak and a friend's recommendation. I was hoping to attend some pool sessions this winter to begin that process. I spoke with Chuck and he suggested I post here to see if anyone would be willing to let me borrow a boat and other equipment to try out as I research what I will need of my own. It looks like I may be able to attend the next two sessions (Jan. 22 and Jan. 29). Would anyone have an extra boat for me to tryout during a session and/or other equipment? Feel free to respond here or PM me. Thank you all for your time and considering letting a complete newb tryout their gear!

I have the Jan 29 session. I can outfit you with a mamba 8.0 or 8.1. Weight range 150 to 235. I can bring both boats, skirts and paddles. I can be there next week with gear if that is your week to be there.

According to the sign in sheet for 1-29, there were 12 paying participants. According to the money bag, there should have been 14. Did anyone forget to sign in or was an anonymous donation given to the club?
Future tip: Please write plainly.

We are in need of volunteers to host the pool sessions on February 18 through the end of April. Let me know which Sunday(s) you will host and I'll update the list at the top of this thread.
The host collects money, manages the sign-up sheet and (optionally) helps hold the door while people bring in their kayaks. As a host you can still roll in the pool.
