Weenyfest will happen this year. On Saturday Sept. 25 we will meet in the grandview sandbar parking lot at 11:00 am. We will then shuttle up to the glade creek access on the upper new river. We will boat 4.9 miles back to glade creek. This stretch of river features numerous class II rapids and a couple of class III rapids (the holes and bigger waves are easily avoided in the class IIIs). This trip is designed for all levels of boaters and no prior experience is required. If you need equipment or a ducky then post ahead of time.
Following the river trip, we will have a cookout in the grandview sandbar campground. I will be taking my camper down in the middle of the week to insure that I get a drive in camp spot. The Grandview Sandbar Campground is a first come first serve campground and in the last couple of years the drive in sites have been filled to capacity by friday evening on fall weekends. Glade creek and Army Camp both have small National Park Service campgrounds and are located nearby as well.
Weenyfest got started a number of years ago when one of my ex wives complained "you never take me out on the river, you just run the gauley." Thus weenfest was born and occurs the next sat. after gauley fest. Naturally, we say "wee wee wee" as we go through the class II rapids and eat weiners at the end of the trip. The food at the end of the trip is potluck. I'll be bringing wieners, buns and pbr. We will need condiments, cups, plates, silverware in addition to sidedishes and dessert. Feel free to post up what you're bringing.

I plan to be there and maybe Jane will be coming too I hope. I will bring the best vegetarian/ ie non-meat weiners we can find. I will confirm her later as she has a number of gigs get on her calendar on short notice. No matter what I shall come. Thanks to all who helped me a couple weekends back. Tony Daniels in particular who put up with my presence for a couple of days. Hope the Ale 8 is sitting well! I can't wait to continue to learn whitewater and more importantly made an incredible group of new friends! I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to learn and grow! It is slightly difficult to transfer the knowledge to practice on Ohio River flat water and making progress in my paddling so that I can begin to control myself in rapids. So I am just doing basics. Fitness and hip and oblique strength, and paddling a kayak straight without a skeg. Thanks to all and see you soon!

I feel like two years ago we all forgot to yell wee wee wee... the hot dogs and sausages however did not let anyone down. I thought i was tuff stuff and ate 5 paqui chips back to back and then sat there breathing with my tongue out and mouth open for an hour to deal with the burn.

so here's what's in my fridge at the sandbar: 20 oscar mayer weiners, 12 brats, 5 fire cracker brats, 4 vegan weiners, 6 turkey or chicken weiners (i don't remember which), a few grass fed beef weiners, 6 or 8 nathan's cheddar weiners, 6 all beef weiners, a variety of buns, ketchup and mustard, plates, plasticware, a big can of vegan beans, some pbr, some water, a few diet cokes, saurkraut, one small can of chili, bag of grated cheddar.
If you want onions or homemade chili, coleslaw, feel free to bring it. I do have plenty of plates and utensils to eat with. I don't have bowls. There are buns but they are not glutton free. Simple sides appreciated. A folding table for food, firewood, paper towels could be useful.
Currently I have three usable duckies: a tandem that I plan to use with a newbie (graham's wife, first time on any ww), and two singles- a tomcat and a sevylor. Two of the indiana crew are looking for a tandem duck. I've offered the single duckies but this is less than ideal since it involves a parent and 8 year old. So another double ducky would be nice. This would free up a single for Maria. If somebody wants to bring a raft that would work as well instead of a tandem duck. I'll be happy to steer it. My own old Maravia raft leaks. I'll throw the duckies, paddles, pfds (although I have no kid sizes anymore) in the subaru and bring a canoe paddle in case I'm needed to guide a raft.
I'm encouraging people to share campsites. I can squeeze graham's tent, and small camper (think jeanie's egg) onto my site. Cars may need to be parked down at the parking lot. I'll be looking for someone to drive out my subaru on sunday to oak hill. Woody has a tent on a site and I think Tim B. is snagging a site. Several walk in tent sites were available down by the river as well.

Tony- I am bringing my raft and have room for 2 or 3 more. I will also bring my Sea Eagle double duck so any extras can choose. I have a small adult PFD if you need it. I will not be there until Friday afternoon because of the death of one of our church Deacons.

Wes- If there room I would like to have a spot on your raft. Welcome aboard Maria. The kids aren't coming so there is plenty of room. Counting you, we have 5 and can actually hold as many as 8 on the section we will be on.

Not going to make it because I am taking a tour with NPS. I wanted to let you all know this is History Weekend in NRG. Check out park service website. You may find something of interest one of the days. I did the haunted hike last year. Quite an informative hike and it is Friday evening. Not trying to hijack anyone, just in case someone has no intention of getting on river.

thanks Wes it sounds like we got the ducky situation under control. Two double ducks (mine and yours), two singles (mine) and a raft (yours) should make it work for anyone not hard boating.
Kathy, history is common interest. It is something we all have. There's just a few decades I choose to forget.
