This signature club event will occur on Sat. Sept. 28th. We will meet at 11:00 am in the grandview sandbar parking lot. We will boat from Gladecreek to the Grandview Sandbar (5 miles) on the Upper New River and follow this up with a weiner roast and pot luck in the campground after the trip (I'll be camping for the weekend at gvsb) . As always participants are encouraged to say "wee wee wee" as they negotiate the class 2/3 rapids of the upper new. This event is designed for all skill levels, families, and even newbies. I always look forward to this event but don't just take my word for it, read what others say about weeny fest.

from Joe Stoneman "Weenyfest is where I discovered my spirit animal, the brown trout. I saw a great blue snatch it out of the water with its beak. I became overwhelmed as I pondered the journey that little brown took- from the Beckley sewage plant, on down piney, and then up, all the way up the New, through Quinnemont, and I thought that's just so cool...if only I could attain like that....and all the colors are just amazing man- we're talking trees, water, nature man."
from Jojo Surface "Dude, I've paddled the entire New, Weenyfest is where it's at. That wave below mill creek access is so smooth and glassy, you can just shred it up. Brain wave and Ender waves are good but none of it compares to weenyfest, and if Nirvana is in, you'll just get your whole body and mind blown away."
from Jo Beth Veggie, "When I first heard about weenyfest I was totally grossed out by the idea of it all. I read they were going to eat actual meat hot dogs. It just all seemed so primitive, cooking on a fire and all. But then I reconsidered when I found out I could bring my own Tofu dogs. There's nothing quite like the taste of warm tofu in a tube, cooked over an open flame...I'm totally hooked, but this year I'm gonna make sure they have non gmo ketchup.
John Sporter, "There are just so many good games that weekend and I know they don't have reception at the Grandview Sandbar....so I definately was going to pass weenyfest up to watch all the big games on my big screen at home- Then I realized all my saturday teams I like just suck- Mountaineers, Marshall, Pirates, Reds. So I'm going to Tevo the games and go, at least I can be a Weener (winner)."
Jonny Gearish, " I'm definately going, I gotta a new boat at Gauley Fest and I want everyone to see it- one of a kind color scheme- mostly puke green with a chunky swirl- what can I say, I drank too much at Gfest and tossed all the IPA keg dregs right into the cockpit. Weenyfest will get my boat smellin' like the new river, a real improvement over the stench of Gfest...I hope though that someone brings some PBR, my next boat is gonna look like a big blue ribbon.

from Joel Fitabs, "I'll be there for sure, gonna run an extra lap or two. If any one wants to meet me I'll be jogging along the road with my boat at about 7:00 am but I think I might breakdown and just bike up for the second run and let someone haul my speeder kayak. I've been training hard for the race and then I realized there wasn't one so now I'm just trying to beat my old time. I can definately show you all the race lines, sometimes it's just faster to boof over the house sized boulders. Oh, and don't worry, I'll bring power bars and gatorade to the potluck. I got you covered, you need some protein and electrolytes to achieve 40,000 steps."

I've missed too many trips in weeks gone by. Yeah, I've got excuses. The county fairground events, Dorian blowing up an Ocracoke trip. A KY trip and passing on a LG trip. Now a move after 18 years to a new building for our pantry spending every day at the new location. I would have loved to have taken that blindfold GL to GVSB trip last weekend. Sounded like...FUN? So I won't miss weenie fest! I need to refresh my body's lost fluids with some good ole New River water. No doubt there are others out there that for one reason or another haven't boated much this season. So load 'em up and head to that terrifying 5 mile stretch of class II-III water. Don't bother with the Gauley. There are still weeks left, the shuttles are long and you may very well get trashed. Join the weenies and squeal all the way down where we can float, eat weenies and tell lies afterwards as we enjoy each other and one of the remaining warm weather weekends before what we know is coming... comes.
We can't wait...we'll be there Friday nite!

I plan to roll in early Thursday with my camper; I'm also bringing a couple of tents to hold more spots. Stay till at least Sunday, so I'm available for multiple runs... I wonder how bright the moon will be?

okay I've bought all manner weiners- traditional, 100 %chicken, 100% beef, brats, artificial colored red weiners, smoked lumberjack sausage, I will also pick up a variety of buns before the big event, Condiments I have ialready include catsup, brown mustard, kraut, and pbr. Actually pbr isn't so much a condiment as a cooking sauce for the brats. I plan to make a mock vegan cincinati chili for another topping.
suggestions for things to bring: other beverages besides my pbr cooking sauce, plates, cups, utensils, chips, salads, desserts, fire wood, skewers, traditional hot dog chili, coleslaw
it's simple, bring what you feel like eatin'!

Maria and I are trying to be there by 5PM Friday evening. We both work until noon on Friday. I'll try to catch the Friday evening paddle if I get there in time. If not, maybe I'll look for that surf wave Tony mentioned.

Burn ban exemptions now include fires for warmth or cooking as long as they are in a fire ring at a designated campsite.
Don't bring your Kentucky firewood into WV.

Weather forecast looks great but going to pass on the weeny weekend.. Hot dogs boiled in PBR with sauerkraut on top sounds like a " Blazing saddles " kind of experience. Don't sit too close to the fire !
