Folks, It is a little late coming out, but it seems everything is finalized. Dates: May 13-14 Location: Cherry River, Summit Lake Campground Sign up: www.wvwa.net/2017-Clinic-Intermediate.shtml Cost: $40 Registration Deadline: 10 May 2017 Steve Pack has volunteered to teach the Aspiring Intermediate Course for 2017. Steve is a level 4 instructor with many years experience, and I have no doubt he will be an excellent instructor and coach. Tom Connelly and myself will be Co-instructors/ safety boaters. We have both been through the kayak instructor course from Chris Wing and are excited to teach what we have learned. This clinic is for the kayaker who is already comfortable on class 2 whitewater, as well as making eddy turns & peel outs. We will work on improving our paddling skills – paddle strokes, eddy turns, peel-outs, ferries, bow & side surfing, & much more. We will also concentrate on river reading & using water features to your advantage. It is important that you have been paddling at least two or more times in 2017 before the clinic start date. This clinic is tiring for those who are out of practice. Please don't sign up for the clinic if you cannot attend both days. If water is not available on the Cherry, we will move to a different location. Where we paddle on Sunday will be decided after the class on Saturday & will depend on water availability & student skills. I plan on Camping Friday and Saturday May 12 and 13 at Summit Lake Campground about 10 miles outside Richwood. The campground is first come basis, but the park ranger says it rarely gets too full. Cost is $10 per site, and each site allows 2 cars/tents. I am not sure if it is RV friendly, but will make a trip there before the clinin. for additional info on the campsite go to -- www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mnf/recarea/?recid=6989. If camping is not available, The Cranberry Campground is not too far from this area.

I want to apologize to everyone who signed up for the clinic. I will not be able to teach this weekend. A friend and coworker of mine was killed by a drunk driver Sunday night. She was a single mother of three and one of the best ER nurses I ever worked with. Her funeral is Saturday morning in North Carolina. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience. I was really looking forward to it. Steve

I'm available to help out on Saturday if you need an extra safety boater or want a fool to demonstrate improper form while getting windowshaded in holes.

The Aspiring Intermediate Clinic is being postponed until next weekend: May 20-21. If you are signed up and unable to attend next week your class fees will be refunded. If you are looking to boat this weekend, please check the message forum for a pickup trip. The reason for postponing is we were unable to obtain the proper insurance for the clinic. I apologize to all those that had planned to participate this weekend, and I hope you are able to come next weekend.

Harry,
Thank you for keeping on top of this and for deciding to postpone the clinic instead of just canceling it. Please keep me posted so I can send checks to those who cannot participate next weekend.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately I will have to bow out next weekend due to a prior commitment. I look forward to participating in another clinic that the club offers.
