I just registered to help on Sunday. I have to work Saturday. I can bring my Remix XP9 & skirt, and at least one, but possibly 4 LL coupe SOT's. I only have 2 spare ww paddles, but do have 2 rec paddles (aqua bound manta ray hybrids), and 2, possibly 3 pfd's. I'll have to sort some things out before I can figure out how many boats and things I can quickly access. I'm in the process of a move, so my only organized gear is what I took when I left Monday morning (my mama, my paddle, skirt and pfd).

Tony, I feel pretty comfortable on boats, the LL SOTs are not needed. I say the more the merrier on PFDs, ww paddles and other gear. We will be able to lock up any excess ggear at the put in.

Rivers are rising fast.New is approaching 9 feet on Thurmond gauge. What is our cutoff for science camp? Gauley is at 25 feet at Craigsville, almost 60,000 cfs!

Lots of water in the headwaters of the Greenbrier right now also, so only going to rise over the next day as it makes it way to the New. Some really high water already and it's not over.

I think it was called on Sunday last year at slightly lower flows than we are currently seeing, I want to say it was around 12K cfs (currently at 13K @ Thurmond). I wouldn't be surprised if we see 20-25K cfs at Thurmond by Saturday with the current trends. Bluestone drainage was hit the least, but a lot of the upper reaches of the Greenbrier saw significant rainfall.
Greenbrier at Buckeye is currently at 5k cfs, rising 1k cfs in the last hour. We probably won't see peak flow on the New until late Friday.

There are probably a lot of people looking at the gauges right now, and wondering what will happen. I will be watching the weather and monitoring the gauges throughout the evening and tomorrow morning. Currently the New is at 13K which is the level I chose to be the cut-off level. There is still alot of water coming down the Greenbrier that has not made it to Bluestone so the New river will continue to rise. The good news is that the New river upstream of the Bluestone dam has not risen and most of the water is coming from local streams. I would expect levels to crest late Friday or early Saturday. As of right now, I have not cancelled Science Camper weekend, but I will make a decision Friday morning. It is possible that we would cancel Saturday and still paddle Sunday if the river drops to an acceptable level. To make matters worse, our Campground at Ace is flooded, but appears to be receding. For those planning on camping Friday evening, it might be best to wait until later in the day. There are many people coming from far away, please let me know if you will be unable to volunteer for any reason.

I can't put up the entire Science Camp, but if anyone gets desperate for a place to stay Friday night, I have some room to park, a couple of guest beds, and places to camp (inside or outside). I live near Cunard. I should be here all day Friday.

Greenbrier at Buckeye shot up from 7500 cfs to over 24,000 cfs in the last 3 hours. It's not looking good for sunday either. It's not looking good around the state. I'd be suprised if the science camp folks wouldn't cancel it.

Recon report... Left my trailer at Ace. Passed on sleeping under the shelter, water came up again and yes, its was high enough to flood the shelter earlier today, plus the foot bridge behind the shower house has been relocated. Shower house was flooded too. I'm staying at the Quality Inn tonight. Hope my trailer is still there in the morning.

Hello all, spoke with Amy and chad. Looks like there's some damage around the property. Hoping the water drops out with the heat and sunshine today. Heard they are planning on spraying out the restrooms and cleaning it up. If I get any more news I'll post. Heading that way around 12 or 1 today.

Greenbrier at Hilldale is currently 73,700 cfs. Still over 8K at Buckeye, so more water will be moving down today. I wouldn't expect the levels to come back to reasonable for Sunday. Started raining again here as soon I as I started typing this.

New is at 50,000 cfs and still rising. I can't imagine it would drop low enough for a trip on Sunday.

I would like to thank everyone willing to volunteer their time and their kayaks and gear, but I will have to cancel the trip. It was reported that the bridge to the campground at Ace had washed out, but because my cell service is down, I cannot verify that. As many people know, the river is mostly washed out, and becomes easier at these higher levels, but I still expect many of the Science campers would have a swim. The high water makes the river very swift and very wide and those swims will be very long, and pod leaders will have a difficult time keeping track of all their campers.
Sincerely, Harry

The main bridge is not washed out. Ace will have a hard time cleaning up. They have water but very low water pressure. Everything is still covered in mud. I'll let Beth now we're cancelled. What can you do...

With the NRG gauge reading 21.04' and Sandstone-McCreery reporting 90,100 cfs, I think you made the right call Harry.
