Hello WVWA family!
I heard from Desiree with National Youth Science Camp and our dates this year are July 12-13. Please try and find time to volunteer for this amazing opportunity that we have to spend time and share our love for the water with this wonderful group of youngsters. I have said it before and I'll say it again, its one of those events that you get back as much if not more...(much more in my case) as you give. Its great fun with old established friend as well as new ones you will make....GOOD TIMES. I want to thank all who have volunteered in the past and to those that have already committed. Those of you that have told me already that you will not be there; you will be greatly missed... I have been grateful to have worked and learned from you over the years. Thanks everyone for your help and support. Charlie
PS - I will work to get volunteer forms available on line if they are not already, for those that have committed verbally I ask that you still fill out a form so we can keep track of volunteers... To be an on the water volunteer we ask that you be an intermediate paddler comfortable with Upper New and rescuing an occasional swimmer. There are other land based functions that need to be addressed if that sound like something you would like to do and get involved... feel free to contact me or come to the next club meeting to find out more.
Thanks again!!! Charlie Lets go boating!

Sorry I dropped off the radar screen there for awhile. Lori and I finally got a house and between moving, being on night shift and water apocalypse it’s been rough on the old sergeant here. Anyway, I’m scheduled to work that weekend but will submit a leave request. There shouldn’t be a problem. For now, count me in. I will have my daughter’s boat (the Dagger) and all required equipment for you to use.

After a few years of participation I am happy to be taking a larger role in this event. I encourage anyone with the appropriate skills or equipment to consider contributing. How many opportunities do you get to introduce 100 young people to something you enjoy? It's more than just sharing a great day on the river. Every year the club is able to show 100 young minds that we aren't crazy yahoos there to pollute, trespass, or disrespect. The club offers an example of boaters that are stewards of the environment we enjoy, respectful of others enjoying the river in other ways, and safety minded.
On the subject of safety we are all aware that any activity has inherent risks. While impossible to remove all risk, we will be implementing changes when we find ways to improve river safety. How we handle wet exit training will be one such adjustment. Safety is all of our responsibility and many club members can contribute to the overall safety of the trip just by showing up. The more competent boaters we have the safer the weekend. The reverse is also true. If you are not sure of your ability to remain upright & perform rescues on the upper new, consider contributing gear instead. Otherwise there are 7 weeks to train up on those skills. A few years ago I did several GC to GVSB runs pretty much completely backwards so I was confident I could be an asset on the river.
Since last year was canceled due to high water it's even more important that the club make this year a success. Please reach out to Charlie if you are unsure about any aspect of the event.

Looking for volunteers!!! Its time to rally the troops for the up coming NYSC event! July 12-13 Glade creek to Quintamont staying at the Rivers camp ground behind the Ace Gear Shop. Matt wanted to help so I have asked him to handle the safety talk this year since the Chuck (Uncle Fuzzy) Brebec will not be joining us this year. Thanks for stepping up Matt. If you are wanting to volunteer your time and or donate equipment please fill out a Volunteer form and check or list what your interested in donating...Please put your name and number on anything you donate and want back. The forms will allow us to keep track of number of volunteers and gear as we get closer to the date. (I will post this list so everyone can see it.) Thanks to all the folks that are always donating there time and equipment in the past that will not be able be to make it this year...You will be missed!!! Please drop me a form! Thanks Charlie lets go boating!

Hey Gang! Getting a list of Volunteers and gear together to post, that way everyone can see how it’s coming. I have gotten a lot of verbal offer for boats over the weekend. A few too many to remember. If you offered gear could you please fill out an on line form or even email will do...Please remember if you are loaning equipment to put your sign on it...do it well..colored tape sharpie marker in boat and paddle anywhere else it will mark and stay... I have appreciated the extra gear but there’s only so much of this stuff you can use. Got about 13 bodies at the moment...lots of folks who normally give there time are not able...so if you got the time this is really good stuff...if you do not know who NYSC club is Google it or check out the info offer on our site. You would think this honor would be in the hands of a big local outfitter. But way back when it all started there were no big outfitters, so people looked to big business for sponsorships and luckily there was a member of the WVWA at the right place at the right time. We are very fortunate to be hosting these kids for two days. It’s a pleasure you have to experience for yourself. Come join us if your comfortable paddling, rescuing swimmers, in class III water. on line form can be found top o page NYSC VOLUNTEER LIST (List Updated 7-08-14) Charlie Redington — Sat/Sun Matt Thompson — Sat/Sun Scot Meadows — Sat/Sun Dan Waller — Sat/Sun Ryan Warner — Sat/Sun Tom Connelly — Sat/Sun Bridget Tincher — Sat/Sun Cathy Payne — Sat/Sun Wes Barthwick — Sat/Sun Linda Barthwick — Sat/Sun David Bell — Sat/Sun Ruth Bell — Sat/Sun Ken Jordan — Sat/Sun Michael Runyan — Sat/Sun John Callender — Sat/Sun Betty Callender — Sat/Sun Barney Lilly — Sat/Sun John Tingley — Sat/Sun Norman Montalto — /Sun Justin Neil — Sat/ Anne-Marie Sievers — Sat/Sun Scott Male — Sat/Sun Andrew Gillespie — Sat/Sun Jeff Joseck — /Sun Michelle Isble — Sat/Sun Pat McCarty — Sat/ Harry Netzer — Sat/Sun Mason Daniel — Sat/Sun BOAT AND GEAR LISTKey: HB (hard boat) / H (helmet) / P (paddle) / S (skirt) / J (life jacket) HARD BOATS (17 total) 2 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from CR 4 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from TC/BT 1 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from DW 2 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from SM 1 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from MT 1 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from WB 3 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from DFK 1 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from CP 1 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from RL 1 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from KJ 1 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from JT 2 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from AMS 2 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from JP 1 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from HN 1 HB / (H-P-S-J) / from BA SIT ON TOP (5 total) TC-1, SM-2, BL-2 DUCKEY’S (2 total) MD-2 HELMET (8 total) RW-1, TC-4, DW-1, WB-2 PADDLE (4 total) RW-1, DW-1, WB-1 , DB-1, BL-1 JACKETS (3 total) WB-2 , DB-1 SKIRTS (2 total) DW-1, WB-1

Hey Charlie, Just so I have it correctly, the volunteers are meeting at the Old Rivers Campground (next to Ace) in Fayetteville on Friday after work and bringing whatever we are in charge of providing, along with any gear we are loaning?

I got Thursday off so I figured I'd go up to Ace that afternoon and setup camp, 'unless you need me doing something else'. Is there a certin area at the Camp site you would prefer to set up operations,,, if not already occupied?

Charlie,
I really hate to miss the NYSC this year but I will be out of town for vacation. I have a small Burn, paddles, PFD's, helmets and spray skirts to loan but I will be leaving on the 4th. If any in the club are near Milton, I could arrange pickup.
Let me know what you need.
