Where: the grandview sandbar campground (gvsb) located on the new river When: Saturday Sept. 23rd. we will meet in the parking lot of gvsb at 11, and figure out our shuttle up to the glade creek access and boat the 4.9 miles back to the gvsb campground. Cookout to follow the ww run in the campground. Of course part of the eats are weiners- hotdogs, brats, mets etc. The rest is a covered dish.
What you need to know. This is a class II-III river with good collection pools for swimmers below the rapids. First timers are welcome to come. If you are new to whitewater you may want to consider trying a ducky or raft. Post under this thread what your needs are and we will make it happen. Camping is still first come first serve at grandview sandbar for 2023. It does fill up on weekends. Nearby campgrounds include army camp, glade creek, and war ridge. There are just a few campsites big enough for smallish rvs. Most sites in the national park are for tents or walk in. Folks are encouraged to share sites. Cars can be left in the parking lot.
Is Weeny Fest actually a festival? No, but it occurs annually the weekend after gauley fest. I started it when my ex wife complained "you are always on the gauley, when will you boat with me?"
Typically water levels are low on the New that time of year. I describe the run as "splashy fun" where you can say "wee wee wee" as you go through the rapids. We've had as few as 7 or 8 folks show up and as many as 50. It does help if you will post up a day or two ahead so I can judged how many hot dogs and buns to buy.
Who can attend? Anybody that wants to may do so. It may also be a good time to have a brief wvwa meeting but I will let the current club leadership decide on that.

It's still August and Weeny Fest is still a month off. Linda and I will be there and if lucky, will drag some others with us. I will bring my raft, double ducky and a hard boat. If anyone wants to try a hard boat, I will bring 2. I will bring my faves,,, brauts and probably more. Might come as early as Wednesday but that's not written in stone. Looking forward to several trips down our home river. NOT looking forward to the end of Summer.
Oh, Did you say meeting? For sure. We can hash out how many meetings to set up for next year.

Hey Chad. This year's theme is an ode to Jimmy Buffet. Get your snow cone machine ready! It"s Margarttaville time!
Might we suggest camping over?

I plan to be there… and my friend from Georgia…. Blaine Boggs… his father was a very early c1 paddler from the club… thank you I knew Blaine Boggs pere. I don't think I paddled with him. I believe he was my post office letter carrier in Charleston. I had several interesting conversations with him long ago.

Linda and I are starting to load up. If there aren't any takers for a raft ride, I will leave it home since it will only be Linda and I coming out for the weekend. So speak up now. Planning on a Wednesday arrival.
