I wanted to start a thread for those who are taking the 2019 ww clinic. The forum message board is a great way to communicate with a group of paddlers. If you have a question, there's a good chance someone else is wondering the same thing
Some folks have wanted to know the start time on Saturday. Registration and Introductions from 9:00-10:00, Instruction will begin at 10:00. If you'll fill out the waivers (links are on the registration page) and bring them with you, then you'll be one step ahead.
As noted on the registration page, participants are encouraged to share campsites. My personal itinerary is to arrive Thurs. and secure a campsite. I will be in a camper so I will have tent pad space available on my site. All sites are primitive. I will share my site with the first two tenters that respond . Please supply vehicle license # and what nights you are staying, so I can register you on my campsite. As a courtesy folks can reimburse me for one night of camping , or share some of their beer, or help me wreck my diet by offering me hot dogs and chips. I will gladly accept any of those options as payment!

Hey Ed if you're coming early (thurs. ) you may want to help someone else out who is arriving Fri. or even Sat morning by getting your own campsite and sharing it with them. No worries we'll get it worked out. Part of the idea of sharing is to help secure campsites for later arrivals.

My plan is to arrive Thursday with my camper, I'll also set up a 12x12 canopy. For a Friday eve dinner, I'll supply approx. 2 dozen Italian sausages/smokies, buns, and peppers/onions. Chips too. I'll bring a truck load of firewood.

I will plan to arrive in the area Friday at about 12:00. I'd love to get straight on the water for a scouting or club trip upon arrival. Plan to tent/truck camp, so piling on with one of you that are arriving Thursday would be appreciated.

Of the up to 23 registered for the clinics, how are they split up as far as beginner/intermediates? Plan to arrive Thursday..

Post by Tony Daniel on May 2, 2019 12:57:08 GMT -5
right now the split is 9 intermediates and 11 beginners. That's based on what I know about folks (i have paddled with 9 of them), and also on what the folks have reported on their registrations. A beginner or two may quickly join the intermediates. We've got some folks with pool and extensive class I experience who may move quickly up.

Very cool. Would love to see club membership grow. You might think about a standby list, in case there are some cancellations.

Here is a great video to digest for those aspiring intermediates. The thought of always inviting water to flow under your boat will keep you in much more control when the river features start getting more powerful.

Tip 1: bring snacks that you can fit in a pfd pocket, plenty of water bottles (stored in boat) , chums if you wear glasses, and old tennis shoes are better river shoes than "water shoes" that are sold at walmart. You want something with a sole to protect yourself from rocks. Sunscreen, a hat, and an extra layer for the morning can be nice as well.

Tip 2: if your are filling out the aca waiver, check the box for the one day event membership. it costs you nothing, the west virginia wildwater association will pay it (using part of your clinic sign up fee). www.wvwa.net/2019-clinic-adult_waiver.pdf

Sounds good for food. Linda is waiting on a broccoli recipe from Bridget. Baked beans too. As far as the campground goes. They list 33 spaces in 2 loops. They also list 3 hand pumps. Does anyone know if that is the sole water source? If it is, fill your camper tanks before you leave . It would be pretty tough to fill them with a hand pump. wvtourism.com/company/summit-lake-campground-usda-forest-service/See everyone Thursday.
