Will these sessions continue after the New Year? I just found the posting and would like to learn to roll before the new season starts. Have there been many people participating? I read that there is no instruction, have there been club members there who can offer tips?

Karen—no roll session this Monday 12/31. They will start back up on Wednesday January 2nd. Attendance has been mixed with some sessions being 20+ people and otherr sessions having just a few boaters. Most of us are local Fayette County boaters (we have one gentleman that comes all the way from Parkersburg), it is bring your own gear and there is no formal instruction. With that being said though there are more than enough of us to help new folks.
good roll session on Mon. May 6th, a couple of AOTG trainees showed up with kayaks, I didn't quite get them rolling in one night but got them close. A couple of the "regulars" were there and we all got stronger on our rolls. We missed you Brent, but I totally understand the call of paint creek. Sessions will continue as long as people keep showing up. Sessions are from 6-8 on Mon. and Wed. evenings. You pay $5.00 and sign in at the front desk. We park along the yellow curb on the side of the building (near a service entrance). There is a hose we drag outside to clean boats. Everyone has done a great job keeping the pool clean. If you haven't made it to a pool session I just wanted to let you know we are still going at it.
yeah, never a good sign when you pull up to Y and you see lots of little girls with floaties on. This is not the first time it has happened. I understood when they lost heat unexpectedly. When they closed for routine pool maintenance they posted on their facebook page the day of- but must of us never looked. Still, all and all its been great. I've gotten in over 30 sessions in montgomery since they started this. Always a good idea to call first if driving from a distance. When they scheduled the pool party they probably never envisioned that we would still be showing up for regular roll practice in may.
3 of us went down the road to kanawha falls and paddled around the base. Plenty of currents moving around to practice ferries and peel outs. We all stayed pretty conservative because we didn't really dress for outside paddling. David D. did one practice roll and reported that the water was still chilly. So on Monday I'll throw in car a paddling jacket and underlayer and if the session gets cancelled unexpectedly I'll just repeat the kanawha falls experience.

Yea. We were bigger than them, but way outnumbered. Retreat was the right call. Glad to hear you had a good time at the falls. I enjoyed the drive up to my old stomping grounds. Hope to see you next week.
