Folks, I'd like to say thanks to everyone that volunteered their time or gear last year. This year Science Camper will be held July 7 and 8 and if you're volunteering, you can camp with us at the Burnwood Campground beginning July 6th. If you would like to volunteer your time or equipment, use the link below. www.wvwa.net/cgi-bin/campernew.pl?formLike the previous years, we will be on the Glade Creek to Grandview section of the New River. If you are experienced with this section or an experienced (class III comfortable) paddler sign up and help out. For those unfamiliar with this event... The club has partnered with the National Youth Science Foundation to give an introduction to whitewater paddling to their delegates. The NYSF delegates are 17-18 year old students from all across the county and even a few other countries that were selected to attend the month long Science Camp in WV.

Harry-
Just let me know if you want me in a hard boat, duck or raft. If a hard boat is best, Linda may want to hitch a ride with Scott or find someone that can guide the duck with Linda.

I signed up to help with shuttles and on the water. My boat hauler can hold a bunch.
Will not be camping. I will have the Trigger and skirt that Jude used for the beginner clinic, but no paddle.

Harry, Betty and I will be there Saturday and Sunday. We will have two extra kayaks, skirts, paddles and 1 helmet. The extra kayaks will be a Dagger 10.5 and a LL 69. We can also bring a single duckie or a Sea Eagle double if you need them.

I would like to be there for both days, but I can't commit for sure now. In any event, I will have a kayak and a sit-on-top with all gear available. If you need extra helmets, pfds or skirts, let me know.

Hey Harry, I'm in for Sunday. Not sure about Saturday, you know, new job and all, but will do Saturday too if I don't hafta work. Where is burnwood cg? Burnwood CG is just off Route 19 north of the NRG bridge. If you are driving north on Route, cross the bridge and take to first left turn as soon as you cross the bridge. If you are driving south on Route 19, turn right just before the bridge. (The road is across Route 19 from the Canyon Rim Visitor Center. Here's a link to a map

I appreciate everyone that has volunteered, but we need many more. Only 16 people have signed up to help out, and that is no where close to what we need to get 30 science campers down the river.

I have offered to bring the LL Trigger boat and skirt. No paddle. I will also bring an adult PFD and helmet.
If needed, I can bring a single duck with paddle and child's PFD and helmet. Would prefer not bringing them if not needed.

Cliff, I think we will be ok without your duck. A few others were bringing ducks or larger sit on tops.

I will be sending out an email to all the people that have volunteered with the details for this weekend.
Friday: Burnwood Campground will be available at 1200 hrs(noon). Burnwood Campground is just north of the New River Gorge Bridge off Rt19. Saturday: Science Campers will be arriving at the Glade Creek Put in at 11:00. Volunteers need to drop off all loaned out boats and gear by 1000. Pizza by 5pm. Sunday: Science campers will be arriving at Putin at 1000, so we need to have everything ready by 0930.
Notes: Remember, we are doing this event for the Science Campers, let's make this a great experience for them. If you are loaning a boat and skirt, put skirt over cockpit so that we can keep these together. We will be doing wet exits a bit differently this year. It might be slower, but the goal is to reduce any sort of confusion for the campers and volunteers. Have everything marked, including the equipment you are paddling.

Hello, Is anything happening on Friday Evening that needs help? The campground was available at noon, but I was wondering if it was ok to meet in the morning at the river? Mark

This might be a good opportunity to break out the club t-shirts and sweats. I somehow remember selling some in years past.

You're right Wes, some of the kids and volunteers by club merch. I'm not sure who has all the merch though.
