Hello WVWA family! You've all been waiting for it. The 2015 National Youth Science Camp will be June 27 & 28! Water permitting, we will be kayaking the New River from Glade Creek to Grandview sandbar. We will need experienced guides to show the campers how to kayak and get down the river safely. We will also need help on the shore for the safety talk and getting the campers in gear and a boat that fits. Also, let me know what kind of gear you have to lend/donate (kayaks, duckies, paddles, skirts, helmets, PFDs, etc). I have reached out to ACE Gear shop to use their campground and pavilion. We can start arriving on Friday June 26th. Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or thoughts. Thanks, Harry CLICK HERE to volunteer for this amazing event that our club has been hosting for over 40 years!

Harry, I fill out the volunteer form and I clicked Yes to boating but when it submitted it said I checked no. Can you fix that or what do I do?

I suspect that the problem was that you selected "Yes" for the question that you would help with the boating and forgot to enter the validation code at the bottom of the form so you got the message "You did not enter the correct validation code". Then you scrolled down to the bottom of the form, entered the code and click on the "submit" button.
When the error message was displayed, the option was reset to "select one" instead of "Yes". You probably didn't notice that.
To further confuse the issue, the program said to print "No" if the real answer was "select one".
I fixed the code. You can try submitting the for again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Ken & I will not be able to assist that weekend as my oldest daughter is in town from MN. If you need some pre-organization assistance that can be done remotely or if there is post paperwork required, let me know.

We are exactly 1 month away from Science Camper weekend, and I need your help. I've only received a few commitments, and the goal is to have a minimum of 30 volunteers, and equipment for 30 science campers. I know people are still planning their vacations this year, but If you know you can make it, submit your volunteer form.
I haven't received very many forms. If you have filled out a volunteer form on the website and I didn't send you a confirmation email, please PM me or send me an email.

Ok. As stated before. You have the use of my box trailer to transport boats and gear from the camp site to the put in. Extra and unused gear can be secured in the trailer once we get everybody outfitted. People in the Charleston area 'if you will not be participating' can bring boats and other loaner gear to my home (246 Pine Circle, Dunbar) like we did last year, crammed in my garage . I will be a little bit limited on the number of boats I can haul up there because my camping gear and firewood will take up space but will be unloaded when I get to Ace. Harry you should already have my volunteer form for safety boater and yon can now put me down for two loaner boats with gear. (Remix 69 and my small Dagger Outlaw) PLUS FIREWOOD. People PLEASE! Mark your gear! Harry, don't know what else I can do for you but if you think of something or have a better plan, call me anytime after 6 p.m. (working nights, sleeping days) 304-610-4066. Now lets get it together folks!

Harry, just submitted the form. I have a jackson superhero and 4Fun to lend, with most of the gear. If for some reason I can't make it (in the process of building an addition on my cabin), I'll make arrangements to get the boats and gear to you.

Harry, Let me double check my schedule and make sure it's open. I do not mind helping with this event. I can also provide raft support as well as loaning out my boat. I will text your cell and keep you in the loop.

I haven't filled out the volunteer form yet but Linda and I will have 2 extra hard boats and all the gear. Our ACA membership will also save the club 10 bucko's.

Now that everyone who helped and attended the beginners clinic can look back with fond memories of all the fun we had, we need to look ahead to our biggest challenge of the year. Providing gear, lead, safety and sweep boaters for 60 (30 x 2) of our brightest HS seniors from across the country and the world, for that matter may be in trouble. While I did not talk to Harry directly this weekend, I was led to believe we are seriously short of gear, and even more so, on water help. The goal is a one to one ratio of kids to experienced boaters. So what is an "experienced" boater? I won't attempt to answer that leaving it to someone with more experience than me. My first year of boating, I wanted to help but didn't feel I was qualified, but I was invited. maybe it was the 2 person inflatable. It really doesn't matter. We did fish some swimmers out that year. So if you feel comfortable on Glade to GVSB and towing a swimmer to shore or gathering gear, you might want to think about helping. You will not regret attending. These kids are amazing
Lets not disappoint the kids with a lack of equipment and provide them as much safety as possible. At a recent WVWA meeting, the NYSC director said that this is one of, if not the most highly favored event the kids look forward to and only some of them actually get to attend.

Wes, you hit it right on the head. THIS IS THE BIG ONE FOLKS! Let's get it together. Last year at this time, Charlie had 15 boats and gear in my garage! I got nothing here..... let's go!

Ok Harry, unless you have boats for me to haul up or directed other wise. I will head up to Ace Thursday evening and pull everything out of my trailer and setup shop under the shelter. (as I did last year) Also I have clearance from the C&C (aka my wife) to use her Do-It-Now, sit on top. Therefore, you can put me down for three boats with gear. 1) Dagger Outlaw for somebody small. 2)Remix 69 for somebody not so small 3) Do-it-Now for anybody
