Intermediate Clinic May 17 / 18th We have dates place and time, got one applicant and room for 5 more. Looking forward to a fun day on the water working with participants wanting to up their game a bit more. I had been on many club trips prier to taking the intermediate clinic and had a lot of fun. But the clinic with Chuck and Nancy was the first time I stopped and worked the river, catching eddies and side surfing (on purpose), and just taking our time picking apart features along the way. We spent 4-5 hours on just a couple miles of river. It was one of those Bestest Days on the water. It is my goal to offer the same kind of Bestest Day to my fellow paddlers, With Chuck and Nancy’s help of course and Matt Thompson running as safety boater. Thanks Gang! It should be a fun; exhausting 2 day so make sure you bring yourself food and water for lunch breaks Saturday and Sunday. Will be dinning out as a group Saturday night at one of the local spots. Chuck & Nancy have offered their place once again to camp overnight in their back yard. You can find forms at WVWA.NET under the calendar section or the hopefully the link provided. Sign on and join us for a fun educational day on the water. Charlie 304 539 0497 www.wvwa.net/cgi-bin/display_calendar.plLets go boating!

Any pre-req's? My kayaking experience is limited to the beginner clinic last year, and 5 subsequent trips on the 3 upper new sections. Have taken a roll clinic at Marshall, and have a...uh...sometimes... roll in the pool. Definitely hoping to improve a bit this year!

Larry,
The Cherry is much more challenging than the upper New. It is smaller and more technical and requires good boat control. Students are expected to be able to make eddy turns & peel outs before participating in the clinic. Being comfortable int eh water and being able to self-rescue are also important.
It sounds like the only river you have paddled is the upper New. Did you catch any eddies and do any peel-outs or did you just follow someone else down the river?
How good are you at self-rescues?
I suggest that you talk to Charlie if you are still unsure about the clinic.

There is a maximum of 6 students being accepted for the clinic. Preference will be given to those who have not already taken the clinic. After Charlie receives the first 6 registration forms, he will start a waiting list.
Better mail (or hand deliver) your registration form and money to him ASAP.

The registration form for the Intermediate Kayak Clinic can be found at www.wvwa.net/2014-Clinic-Intermediate-Form.pdf. The file is set up so you can tab through the fields and enter the necessary data. Then print it and send it with your check or cash to Charlie at the address on the bottom of the form. You can save the completed file on your computer and attach it to an email to Charlie. If you do, let him know how and when you will get the registration fee to him. (in person or via the mail). Your place in the clinic will depend on when he gets the money.

David Fairburn has not paid his dues for 2014 yet. All participants need to have paid their dues for 2014.

I have had a couple people tell me they would like to take the clinic but can not commit for one reason or another...If interested please fill out application and send in...preference will be given to first 6 first time clinic applicants as a rule... the others will be put on waiting list in case we have a cancellation..all moneys will be returned if not selected.
Its best to keep the group to a limit and 4 to 6 seams to be it, It is a long 2 days. I do appreciate the amount of interest shone in the clinic and depending on the amount of applicants received may justify another clinic...I ask that if you are an intermediate boater and interested, to send in an application so the hole picture can be evaluated...I can bring it up at a meeting and or talk to those involved and go from there...Thanks Folks lets go boating!

Mailing my form out today, depending on my work schedule and space availability I'll be there. I guess, given the signups and verbals I can be the first alternate.

I am going to ask for the first reserve spot. This is because I have taken the clinic before and being out of commission for a season, I know I can use it. So if there is someone that wants the last spot, better grab it.

Charlie, is there still one spot open? No check from Jason? I know John B. has submitted and it looks like theres more folks to do the clinic. Do we want to look at adding another clinic? I know we spoke at roll session, just curious....not trying to stir a pot just saying. Thanks!

Good point Charlie. The swift water rescue class makes you want to boat with people that have had it. Don does a great job with the class. Good learning experience and a lot of fun for me.
